Matea Tavic, top 1992 prospect, signs with Regeneracom (+Video)

Matea Tavic, one of the best players in Europe born in 1992, es a international Bosnian combo guard who shone with Merkur Celje, when being just 17 she averaged 12,1 points per game in Adriatic League, reaching the Semifinals together with Nika Baric and Ana Turcinovic.


Matea Tavic, who first played with Bosnian Senior National Team being 16, had impressed in the 2007 U16 European Championship, where she averaged 24,6 points 5 rebounds 3,7 assists and 2,3 steals per game.

Matea spent her childhood in Germany , where she stayed because of the war in Bosnia.

In the 2007-08 season, Matea moved to Slovenia to play for Merkur Celje and returned to Celik in the 2008-09 season to finally go back to Celje in the 2009-10 season, averaging 12,3 points 2,6 rebounds 2,3 assists and 1,9 steals per game in Slovenian League and 12,1 points 2,6 rebounds and 2,1 assists in Adriatic League,  reaching the Semifinals of this competition and also being Slovenian Cup Champion.

After suffering a knee injury in October 2010, Matea recovered and came back to play at the end of the 2010-11 season and is currently ready to have a strong 2011-12 season.

Matea Tavic has also been a key piece in the different bosnian national teams.

Being just 13 years old, Matea Tavic played her first U16 European Championship in 2005, playing the same competition again in 2006 and despite being two years younger she already averaged 20,9 points 4,7 rebounds and 2,2 steals per game with 45% from the three point line.

In the 2007 summer and still 1 year younger,  Matea Tavic averaged 24,6 points 5 rebounds 3,7 assists and 2,3 steals in the U16 European Championship , being the best scorer and second best passer in the Championship.

In the 2008 summer, being also two years younger, she played the first three games of the U18 European Championship, shining in her first game with 25 points.

Matea played also in the same summer with the Senior National Team and being 16 years old she averaged 7 points in 25 minutes per game, shining against Taru Tuukkanen´s Finland with 24 points.

Matea played the U18 European Championship in the 2009 summer, averaging 16,4 points 4,1 rebounds and 4,2 assists per game.

In the 2010 summer, Matea played also the Qualifying for the Senior European Championship, averaging 7 points per game.

2010-2011: ZKK Merkur Celje (Slovenia-SKL), injured in Oct.'10 and was off for 3 months: 6.0ppg, 1.0apg, 1.3spg
